[Jeu de temps / Times Play 2019]

The winning works from each edition of JTTP are presented by our Partners in dedicated broadcasts (typically mid-month) and concerts throughout the year across Canada and internationally (see this year’s JTTP event calendar below). Additionally, all submissions from this edition can be heard anytime on the JTTP webpages and in Sonus, the CEC’s online Jukebox for electroacoustic and related practices.

For JTTP 2014, the 15th edition of the project, a new project component was launched to spotlight these young and/or emerging composers and sound artists and their achievements on the international stage. Thanks to annual collaborations with a growing list of illustrious Partners, JTTP winners are invited to present their work in concerts and festivals across Canada and abroad:

Further, Montréal’s AKOUSMA is a JTTP Project Partner since 2014, presenting the 1st Prize winner each year in their international festival of immersive digital music.

These public presentations of JTTP works by our Project Partners are an excellent complement to the extensive prize packages offered to the winners, and help the CEC promote the work of young / emerging composers and sound artists living in or from Canada within various national and international contexts.

As the host of Acoustic Frontiers (Ottawa), Ralph Hopper has been a long-time supporter of a range of CEC projects, notably Sonus (online electroacoustic Jukebox) and JTTP. Ralph dedicates his mid-December edition of the show to the presentation of the winning works from the most recent edition of JTTP, an annual project that supports the work of young and/or emerging Canadian electroacoustic composers and sound artists.

The concert programme “features late-night-appropriate works that lean towards ambient and long-form exploration.”

Expansive Prairie Skies draws inspiration from the wide, open vistas that surround Winnipeg. It’s the opposite of feeling hemmed in. It’s the soundtrack to a late-night drive beneath a bounty of constellations: contemporary classical and actual classical, avant-garde and musique concrète, noise and ambient music, jazz and more jazz. Léa Boudreau’s Quatre machines pour sauver le monde (2019), the third-place work in JTTP 2019, has been selected for inclusion in the programme for the next BEAST Feast (30 April – 2 May 2020). Under the theme “Come Together”, this edition of the annual Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre’s festival features a selection of works that “joyously defy the idea of a divided and disunited world.” [Festival cancelled amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.]
